ORGANIZATION PROFILE
Gana Chetana Samaj (GCS), means “People’s Awareness Society” a Non-Governmental Organization is a social wing in Assam Mission of the Ranchi Jesuit Society. Its territorial boundary is the plain areas of Assam, the habitats of Adivasis (non-scheduled tribes), and covered with tea plantations. It was started in September 1999 at Balipara and later shifted to its own building at Gana Chetana Samaj / Jesuit Bhavan, Hazarapar, Near Rail gate, Tezpur in Sonitpur District of Assam in March 2012.
It is registered under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860, bearing registration number SPR / 242 / A / 52 of 2002-2003. Gana Chetana Samaj is a resource centre for awareness building, conducting training programmes, initiating various development activities and social action in the Northeast, particularly in Assam. At present it is working in Balipara, Rangapara and Dhekiajuli Blocks of Sonitpur District; Hathidura and Gossaigaon Blocks of Kokrajhar District (BTAD), Jalah and Gobordhana Blocks of Baksa District and Kakopathar and Margherita Blocks of Tinsukia District of Assam.
